You and I grew up on the same legends—Asimov’s Foundations, Gibson’s Neuromancer, the starship odysseys of Star Trek and Star Wars, The Jetsons, Rick and Morty, the time-bending dreams of Back to the Future.

 

Those stories weren’t just entertainment; they planted a seed in us—a belief that humanity can, and should, reach for something greater. I’ve carried that spark all my life. As a Neurobiology and Spatial Computing Professor with a PhD from Max Planck, and as a senior scientist in the Nobel laureate lab that first decoded how the brain maps space, I know how precious—and powerful—curiosity truly is. I built Boeing-backed simulation platforms now used by the world’s largest OEMs and governments, all while refusing to let that childhood wonder dim.

But look around. Too many brilliant minds let their curiosity wither—and with trillions invested in defense and AI Agents, with thousands of brilliant people getting laid off, we face the equal possibilities of an existential threat and humanity's exaltation. The world doesn’t need more cogs in a system; it needs pioneers. It needs refusers. It needs heroes willing to reinvent the present—right now.

This is humanity’s distress call, and I’m sounding it loudly: Don’t sit by while someone else decides the shape of things to come. Don’t let the dreams that shaped you be collateral damage for someone else’s bottom line. What you discovered in those books and films—the courage, the adventure, the sense of cosmic purpose—is real and desperately needed.
